Quantitative research is the process of collecting and analysing numerical data. It can be used to find patterns and averages, make predictions, test causal relationships, and generalise results to wider populations.
Quantitative research deals with numbers, statistics and formulas. Common methods include:
- Structured surveys with closed-ended questions
- Statistical analysis of existing data sets
- Experiments and A/B testing
- Web analytics and behavioural tracking
Quantitative research is suited to answering questions about "how many", "how often", "what percentage" and similar measurable questions. It provides a more objective view compared to qualitative research.
